Electrodiagnosis of the carpal tunnel syndrome.
نویسنده
چکیده
In the carpal tunnel syndrome median nerve motor conduction may be delayed below the wrist, while the motor nerve fibre conduction velocity above-the wrist may be relatively unaffected (Carpendale, 1956; Simpson, 1956). Median nerve sensory conduction may also be impaired below the wrist in the carpal tunnel syndrome (Gilliatt and Sears, 1958). No detailed study has been made comparing distal sensory and motor conduction in patients with the carpal tunnel syndrome. Such a comparison is important, since one mode of conduction may be affected before the other and knowledge ofthis would help to assess the best means of electrodiagnosis for the carpal tunnel syndrome as well as giving further insight into the condition.

Relationship Between Electrodiagnosis and Various Ultrasonographic Findings for Diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between electrodiagnosis and various ultrasonographic findings of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and propose the ultrasonographic standard that has closest consistency with the electrodiagnosis. METHODS Ultrasonography was performed on 50 female patients (65 cases) previously diagnosed with CTS and 20 normal female volunteers (40 cases). Ultrasonography...
متن کاملUlnar tunnel syndrome.
Ulnar neuropathy at or distal to the wrist, the so-called ulnar tunnel syndrome, is an uncommon but well-described condition. However, diagnosis of ulnar tunnel syndrome can be difficult. Paresthesias may be nonspecific or related to coexisting pathologies, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, C8-T1 radiculopathy, or peripheral neuropathy, which mak...
متن کاملMotor amplitude of median nerve with stimulation in the palm a reliable indicator for axonal loss in carpal tunnel syndrome
Background and Aim: The present study aimed to use the median nerve compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitude by stimulation at the palm instead of abductor pollicis brevis (APB) needle electromyography (EMG) for determining a sign of axonal loss in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods and Materials/Patients: This study was performed on 180 patients with CTS referred to ...
متن کاملThe clinical significance of the palmaris longus tendon and functional superficial flexor of the little finger in the pathophysiology of carpal tunnel syndrome
Abstract Background: The pathophysiology of carpal tunnel syndrome is associated with increased intracarpal canal pressure. Recently, palmaris longus has been introduced as an independent risk factor for the development of carpal tunnel syndrome. The purpose of this study was to assess the association of carpal tunnel syndrome with the presence of palmaris longus tendon and function...
متن کاملThe Role of Presence /Absence of Palmaris Longus and Fifth Flexor Digitorum Superfiscialis Tendons in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Background & Aims: Etiologically the causing factor of carpal tunnel syndrome is not clear and multiple contributing factors such as the presence or absence of Palmaris longus tendon have been cited. The aim of the present study was to compare patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and healthy individuals in regard to the absence and presence of Palmaris longus and fifth flexor digitarum superfic...
